The Confidence They Sell You Won’t Heal You: Why Confidence in Christ Is the Only Kind That Lasts
Hey sis, can we have a heart-to-heart?
You’ve probably heard it everywhere— “Just believe in yourself.” “Step into your power.” “Show up and slay, girl!”
And sure, those words sound good.
But if you’re anything like me—or like the women I walk with—you’ve tried that kind of confidence. And it left you exhausted.
Because no matter how many reels you post, how perfect your pics look, or how “together” you seem on the outside… inside?
You still feel unsure. Unseen. You still whisper, “God, who even am I now?”
Let’s talk about it.
A Soft Opening Story: When Confidence Breaks
She was the kind of woman who had the right captions, the sleekest planner, and a prayer journal full of dreams.
Everyone online thought she was thriving.
But behind her confident smile was a woman who felt like she was constantly auditioning—for approval, for love, for rest she never gave herself permission to take.
Let’s call her Tasha.
Tasha did all the “right” things. She posted motivational quotes. She crushed her goals. She made vision boards every January.
But even with all the self-help hacks and shiny wins, she felt empty.
When a big opportunity fell through, her confidence shattered. She realized she’d built her worth on the applause of others—and it was loud one day, silent the next.
That breakdown became her breakthrough.
Tasha turned off the noise and opened her Bible for the first time in weeks. The words weren’t magic—but they were steady.
She began journaling—not about what she wanted to achieve, but who God said she already was.
She also started using Bible plans in the YouVersion app—especially those focused on identity in Christ.
She made it a habit to repeat highlighted verses each morning, even when she didn’t feel them yet. Day by day, those truths started sinking in.
This time, she wasn’t performing. She was being rebuilt—with Scripture, stillness, and small daily steps.
If you’ve ever been Tasha… this is for you.
The World’s Version of Confidence: Loud, Shiny, and Heavy
The world tells us confidence is all about you:
Look good = feel good
Post the wins = be seen
Hustle harder = earn worth
It’s polished. It’s curated. And it runs on external validation.
But here’s what no one says:
That kind of confidence is loud but hollow. It shouts in public and breaks down in private. It works when life’s good—but disappears when it’s not.
Real Talk:
You miss a goal = your confidence drops.
You gain a little weight = your confidence wavers.
You don’t get the likes = your confidence crumbles.
That’s not confidence. That’s performance.
Confidence in Christ: Quiet, Deep, and Unshakeable
Now let’s flip it.
Confidence in Christ doesn’t say, “Look at me.” It says, “I know who I belong to.”
It’s not based on your mood, your mirror, or your metrics. It’s rooted in truth:
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:14
“I am chosen, holy, and dearly loved.” – Colossians 3:12
“God’s power is made perfect in my weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
This kind of confidence stays… even when: - Your heart is broken - You’ve lost your rhythm - You feel forgotten by the world
Because God never forgets who you are—even when you do.
A Biblical Deep-Dive: 3 Women and Their God-Confidence
Let’s look at three women who showed us what true confidence in God looks like:
1. Esther: Brave in Position
Esther’s story begins with loss. She was an orphan, raised by her older cousin Mordecai in exile.
A young Jewish girl in a foreign empire, she had no royal blood or big dreams of grandeur.
And yet, by God’s providence, she was chosen to become queen of Persia.
Esther didn’t climb a ladder to success—she was plucked from obscurity and placed in a palace.
But being crowned didn’t make life easy. She had to hide her faith. She walked carefully. She likely lived with tension every day.
When Haman’s plot to destroy the Jews emerged, Mordecai sent word. Esther had a choice: stay quiet and safe, or speak up and risk everything.
She fasted. She prayed. She took her time—and then stepped forward in faith. Her courage wasn’t showy. It was sacred.
Her confidence wasn’t in her title, beauty, or position. It was in a God who had written her into the story “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
Esther reminds us: You may feel small or unqualified, but God sees the bigger picture. And He equips those He calls…
2. Ruth: Loyal in Obscurity
Ruth was a Moabite widow with no promise of protection, provision, or platform.
Her story could have ended in quiet survival.
But instead, she clung to Naomi—not just out of loyalty to her mother-in-law, but because she was drawn to Naomi’s God.
Her famous words, “Your people will be my people and your God my God,” (Ruth 1:16) were more than a family vow—they were a statement of faith.
Ruth left everything familiar and walked into a land where she was a foreigner.
She worked humbly in the fields, gathering leftovers. She didn’t demand attention, yet her character stood out.
Boaz took notice—not just of her beauty, but of her faithfulness, her dignity, and her quiet strength.
Ruth’s confidence wasn’t loud. It was steady. She moved with grace, not hustle.
And because she trusted in the God of Israel, she was woven into the lineage of Jesus Himself.
Her story reminds us: even in obscurity, God sees. Even in loss, He can lead us to legacy.
3. Mary (Mother of Jesus): Obedient in Mystery
Mary was young. Likely a teenager. Betrothed but not yet married.
When the angel Gabriel appeared and told her she’d carry the Son of God, her entire world tilted.
She didn’t ask for a sign. She didn’t negotiate terms. Her response?
“I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38)
Mary’s confidence didn’t come from understanding every detail.
It came from knowing who was speaking. She trusted God’s voice, even when His plan looked like scandal.
She carried divine purpose in her womb, while likely carrying questions in her heart.
And yet, she praised. She visited Elizabeth. She wrote a song of worship in the middle of mystery (Luke 1:46–55).
Mary shows us that confidence in Christ isn’t about clarity. It’s about surrender. Her yes changed everything—for her, and for us.
So if you’re facing something you don’t fully understand… lean in like Mary. God is still writing holy stories through willing hearts.
These women didn’t build their lives around applause. They built on assignment.
And so can we.
Let’s Compare Side-by-Side
Worldly Confidence
Confidence in Christ
Based on success, image, applause
Based on your identity in Jesus
Changes with circumstances
Stays steady even in storms
Requires performance
Requires surrender
Looks bold but feels fragile
Feels humble but grows strong
Tells you to “prove yourself”
Tells you “you’re already chosen”
Mini Devotional Prompts: Check in With Your Mindset
These three questions are invitations—not pressure—to sit with God and reflect.
Prompt 1: Whose voice is the loudest right now?
Scripture: John 10:27 – “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
Ask: What voice have I been following lately—God’s or culture’s?
Prompt 2: What am I trying to prove?
Scripture: Galatians 1:10 – “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?”
Ask: Where am I seeking validation outside of God?
Prompt 3: What has God already said about me?
Scripture: Isaiah 43:1 – “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
Ask: Which truth do I need to reclaim today?
Take your time. He’s not rushing you.
Confidence Lies We’ve Believed (and the Truth that Sets Us Free)
Let’s name and replace the myths we’ve carried for too long.
Lie: I have to fake it to be strong.
Truth: God’s power is made perfect in my weakness. – 2 Corinthians 12:9
Lie: Confidence means being loud and bold all the time.
Truth: True confidence can be quiet, soft, and Spirit-led. – 1 Peter 3:4
Lie: If people approve of me, I’ll feel secure.
Truth: Only God’s love offers unshakeable identity. – Romans 8:38-39
Lie: I must prove my worth through success.
Truth: My worth was settled at the cross. – Ephesians 2:8-9
You don’t need to perform. You need to belong.
A Simple Weekly Confidence Plan (Rooted in Christ)
Let’s build rhythms—not rules. Here’s one way to practice holy confidence each week:
1. Pray Intentionally (Monday)
Start your week with this whisper:
“God, remind me who I am in You. Strip away the noise. Rebuild me in truth.”
2. Meditate on One Verse (Wednesday)
Choose a verse and write it on a sticky note. Speak it aloud midweek. Let it soak in.
3. Speak Identity Daily
Say one of these each morning: - I am chosen. - I am secure. - I am not performing—I’m planted.
4. One Bold Action (Friday)
Do something led by faith, not fear: - Say no without guilt. - Post without overthinking. - Rest without apologizing.
5. Sabbath Reset (Weekend)
Reflect gently: - What grew my confidence this week? - Where did I let fear lead?
This is how we return—not impress.
Final Word: You Are Still Her
If you’re tired of pretending…
If the hustle isn’t healing you…
If you’ve tried “just believing in yourself” and it didn’t stick—
Try something different.
Try asking Jesus to rebuild your confidence from the inside out. Not instantly. Not perfectly. But daily.
Start your day with this prayer:
“Lord, help me see myself the way You see me.”
Speak identity over yourself:
“I am God’s daughter. I am safe, seen, and sent.”
Unfollow voices that pressure you to perform—and lean into voices that point you back to Christ.

A Blessing to End With
Sis, if you’ve read this far, I already know something: You’re not chasing quick fixes. You’re craving a deeper kind of confidence.
So here’s my prayer for you:
May you walk in rooms not needing to prove a thing.
May your quiet moments be your strongest ones.
May your heart feel safe—not because of who’s watching, but because of who holds it.
You don’t need to be loud to be powerful.
You don’t need perfect plans to be purposeful.
You just need to return to the One who never changes.
You are seen. You are held. You are still her.
Let’s rebuild—together.
With so much love,
Alberta
